BEAR is the Business Expansion and Retention program. The intent of the program is to visit with each business in Box Elder County and assess their needs.  Box Elder county wants to make sure we are a business friendly community with the owners of businesses feeling supported and having their needs heard and addressed. A BEAR representative sits down one on one with the business owner and goes over a small survey.  If needs crop up the representative alerts the department most likely to address the need and follows up to make sure contact has been made.

GBI in Box Elder

New Building for Great Basin Industrial in Box Elder County

GBI initially expanded into Box Elder County in 2010 with a small fabrication facility and 8 employees.  When GBI needed to expand facilities and operations in 2013, we knew we wanted to stay in Box Elder County.  The county simply offered the best critical mass of resources that would help our continued success.

  • A solid base of skilled/trained welding and industrial workers
  • Strong work ethic and diversified experience of the people living in the community
  • Quick and convenient access to major interstate freeway routes
  • Affordable land and development costs
  • Incredibly helpful and supportive county officials and economic development resources

Nucor first came to Box Elder County in 1979. We wanted to build where we could serve customers throughout the western United States. Plymouth offered us a great location, with easy access to both interstates and rail for getting raw materials in and our products out. It also offered a strong utility infrastructure for both electric and natural gas needs. But most importantly, Box Elder offered a resource that is crucial to Nucor’s success – great people with an amazing work ethic and “Can-Do” attitude. Our Nucor team has displayed this over and over again. In fact, our plant in Box Elder County is the first bar mill in the world to produce and ship more than 1 million tons in a year. This has all been accomplished with the Utahn entrepreneurial spirit continually improving equipment originally rated to produce 400,000 tons per year. The support we have received from the local community has helped make Nucor Steel Utah into a tremendous success.

Over the last 3 decades, Nucor has built four additional facilities in Box Elder. We have grown to nearly 1,100 teammates in Utah with the vast majority working right here in Box Elder County. The local governments are great partners for business, with a tremendous vision for leading our community through the 21st century. We are proud to call Box Elder home, and look forward to being a part of the community for decades to come.
